PRESS RELEASE: Attorney Brandon Walecka named Adjunct Professor at UMass Law

Dartmouth, MA – The elder law and estate planning law firm, Walecka Law, P.C., is pleased to announce that Brandon Walecka, Esq., LL.M. has been named Adjunct Professor at the University of Massachusetts School of Law.  In that capacity, Atty. Walecka will teach “Elder Law: Planning for Incapacity & Death” during the fall 2022 semester.

The course will teach upper-level law students the fundamentals of elder law essential to an effective practice, including a survey of legal issues involving elderly clients, a review of government programs, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid (MassHealth and Massachusetts), SSI, and SSDI, and issues in planning for nursing home placement such as asset protection strategies.

Atty. Walecka is not unfamiliar with UMass Law as a 2011 graduate.  “I’ve come full circle,” says Atty. Walecka, “to come back to where it all started is pretty incredible.”  He explains, “Teaching and inspiring another generation of elder law attorneys has been a goal for me for a long time.”  “I am excited to be giving back to the law school that taught so much to me.” This is Atty. Walecka’s first experience in an adjunct position and he’s eager for the opportunity to share his passion for elder law.

Atty. Walecka strongly believes this faculty appointment enhances his growing full-time law practice. “This experience allows me to keep abreast of the always evolving legal landscape and view things I’ve long known with a refreshed view.”

Walecka’s practice focuses exclusively on estate planning and elder law.  Atty. Walecka frequently speaks and writes on the topics of elder law and estate planning in several local publications.  For each of the last seven years, he has been named as a Rising Star by the Massachusetts SuperLawyers®.  He currently serves as President of the Massachusetts Forum of Estate Planning Attorneys a collegial group for estate planning attorneys.  He is a member of Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).
